Helpful Tips to Survive Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving is one of the few days each year where your holiday eating can spiral out of control and your healthy eating habits can fall by the waist side. From the vast array of succulent side dishes to the decadent desserts severed during the holiday meal, it can be difficult to remember your healthy habits. However, you can enjoy all the tradition foods of the holiday and still stay within the confines of your healthy diet just by using some of the following tips.

1. Participate in a Turkey Trot
Believe it or not Thanksgiving day, happens to be one of the most popular days of the year for organized runs, often called "Turkey Trots". Generally, these runs take place early in the morning, so they do not interfere with your holiday celebrations. Turkey Trots are usually a 5K (3.1 mile) run, with some larger organized runs offer 1K walks, kids fun runs, or 10K (6.2 mile) distance runs. These turkey trots are a great way for the whole family to bond, while exercising.

Another a great form of exercise is playing football, especially after watching it on television with the family. While watching the action on a television is a great way to relax and have fun on the holiday, so too can throwing a football around with the family outside.

2. Create Healthy Sides
Sometimes it's easy to get carried away with delicious sides such as stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and gravy but GO for the green. Rather than piling on the carbs fill your plate full of veggies such as green beans or broccoli. The brighter the veggie the better for you. Having a plate full of colorful vegetables means you are less likely to consume unhealthy carbohydrates such as mashed potatoes or Mac N Cheese.

3. Eat Breakfast

Since Thanksgiving dinner is often eaten in the afternoon, it's common to forget about breakfast since the threat of a giant meal rests on the horizon. But as anyone who's tried to eat sensibly knows, starving yourself now will likely cause you to eat more, later. To combat the urge to fill your Thanksgiving plate over and over again, make sure you eat a filling breakfast that morning.
In addition to keeping your Thanksgiving feast binge-free, eating breakfast will keep your energy level high, which is important if you are the designated family member responsible for getting dinner to the table. On Thanksgiving many people wake up early to start cooking for Thanksgiving, toiling away in the kitchen can be almost impossible if you have no energy, therefor choose a sensible breakfast so you're not too ravenous by the time the turkey hits the table.

4. Drink Water
Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Not only will you remain hydrated which helps to increase your metabolism. Also, you will avoid the calories you would have consumed by having multiple alcoholic or soft drinks throughout the day.

5.Wear snug clothes and keep one hand busy.
This is one of my favorites, when you wear snug-fitting clothes, chances are you'll be too busy holding in your stomach to overeat. While you stand around looking fabulous in your holiday finery, hold a drink in your dominant hand so it won't be so easy to grab food,
