Did you know that water is the second most popular beverage in the U.S. after soft drinks. This is a scary stat, since sugary soda is a huge health hazard, as it increases the risk of obesity, stroke, and other heart problems, even if that sugar is calorie free in the case of diet soda.
Also did you know that roughly 60 percent of the body is made of water. Drinking enough water helps to maintain the body’s fluid balance, which helps transport nutrients in the body, regulate body temperature, digest food, and more.
Here are some other reasons for drinking up:
1. Calorie control—drinking water can help with weight loss. Numerous studies have found a connection between water consumption and losing a few pounds. The reason behind this, is that water simply helps people feel full, and as a result consume fewer calories. If only I could follow this rule more.
2. Muscle fuel- Sweating at the gym causes muscles to lose water. And when the muscles doesn’t have enough water, they get tired. So for extra energy, try drinking water to push through that final rep.
3. Clearer skin- Certain toxins in the body can cause your skins pores to clog, which leads to acne . Water helps to flush out these toxins and can reduce the risk of pimples.
4. Fatigue buster- Did you know that one of the most common symptoms of dehydration is tiredness. So next time your feeling a little puckered out reach for a big glass of water.
5. Hangover help- If you had to many glasses of wine the night before, and are feeling a little hungover, you are probably dehydrated. So get some instant help with a glass of water, which will hydrate the body and stop that pounding headache.
6. Pain prevention- A little water can actually act as a pain reliever. Aching joints and muscle cramps and strains can all occur if the body is dehydrated .
7. Brain boost. A study in London found a link between students bringing water into an exam room and better grades, suggesting H2O promotes clearer thinking.
